J2 Aircraft Dynamics Introduction
J2 MATLAB TOOLBOX

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

The J2 Matlab Toolbox allows the full capability of the J2 Universal Tool-Kit with Simulink Model Files.

No longer do you need to spend months running building aircraft models in Matlab only to find that the design has changed and you have to find the change and update your files.

When running manoeuvres, it is now possible to trim an aircraft across 1,000’s of test points in a single go and have all the results stored in a relational database. Use these initial conditions to fly multiple manoeuvres across the complete flight envelope, plot and compare all test cases and then visualize the results.

The speed and ease with which this can be achieved means that you can spend more time designing your system.

When investigating flight control systems, the J2 Matlab Toolbox gives you the best of both worlds by combining the power of Matlab/Simulink for control system design with the analysis capabilities and ease of use of the J2 Universal Tool-Kit.

LINEAR ANALYSIS

The J2 Matlab Toolbox provides an automatic GUI for performing classical analysis. Automatically select test cases stored within the database and linearise the complete system. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors for the State Space system are calculated and used to identifiy the classical modes of motion. Comparison to standard Figures of Merit can be made as well as the impact of Flight Control Systems by comparing open and closed loop characteristics.

KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

1) Seamless Integration

  • Drag and Drop Aircraft Models from J2 Universal Toolkit straight into Simulink Models

Connecting Matlab and the J2 Universal Tool-Kit

  • Automatically fly pre-defined manoeuvres using the J2 Signal Generator
  • All results automatically stored back into J2 Universal for post processing and visualisation
  • All cases version controlled and matched to both the Airframe version and the FCS version

2) Assess the complete envelope

  • No need to generate separate models for each fight condition Trim the aircraft across unlimited flight conditions
  • No longer limited to straight and level flight
  • Fly manoeuvres from any condition

3) Compare cases

  • From previous results it is possible to investigate open and closed loop capability for static and dynamic behaviour
  • Look at the effect of changing gains on the eigenstructure of the complete system

4) Compare to standard Figures of Merit

  • Automatically asses the characteristics to ICAO or ESDU classifications
  • Establish Handling Qualities level on complete non-linear model.
