Comparison of Flight Test Data Using the J2 Universal Tool-Kit

When working with predictive methods and simulation, the question that always comes back is how accurate are the results, and how does the behaviour compare to real life? This becomes critical when developing future concepts and designs, in so far as if the engineer has no faith in the results of the tools that are being used, then they effectively become worthless.

This paper is intended to outline the stages involved, and to demonstrate just how results compare to real flight test data when using the J2 Universal Tool-Kit. 5 manoeuvres exercising the impact of different control surface and landing gear deflections were assessed, and in all cases the J2 Universal Tool-Kit provided results that would be accepted by the FAA in the event of certifying a Training Simulator.
